Corner Canyon High School Athletics

A $100M high school campus with a crazy-good sports program.

corner canyonThe Corner Canyon School District and Draper City outdid itself with Corner Canyon High School – a $100M-plus public high school that opened in 2013. And it wouldn’t be a top American high school without a crazy-good sports program.

We recently had the privilege of interviewing the CCHS Athletic Director, Steve Park who was hired a full year before the school opened. That first year he was tasked with recruiting the best coaching and training staff he could find. And with the investment Draper City was putting into this school, it wasn’t hard to find top coaching talent from all over the state and country.

In its three short years, CCHS sports racked up major championships in:

  • Football (3 Regional Championships and 1 State Semi-final)
  • Girls & Boys Golf (Regional Champions)
  • Wrestling (Regional Champions)
  • Cheerleading Team (State Champions)
  • Lacrosse (State Champions)
  • Drill Team (2 Regional Championships)
  • Girls Swim Team (Regional Champs)
  • Individual state champions in golf, wrestling, and swimming

“I’ve been at a number of schools throughout my career and I’ve really never experienced a school have so much athletic success as this school has had, as early as they’ve had it,” said Steve Park, CCHS Athletic Director.

There are 22 major sports teams at CCHS and several unique Club Teams like hockey and mountain biking. It truly felt like we were interviewing the athletic director at a major university.

And if you think it’s just fun and games at CCHS, you may be surprised to hear that the boy’s basketball team has a combined average GPA of 3.8, with eight players boasting a perfect 4.0. It’s like the high school version of Stanford!

So if you are lucky enough to live in the area, Friday Night Lights at a state-of-the-art stadium might be one of many community events you look forward to each week.
